Many teachers like to start off the school year with an apple unit. On this page you will find a number of apple poems that can help to make your apple unit even more fun. Please click on the titles below to view the poems. I have tried to credit poems whenever I could. If I have credited a poem incorrectly or if you have any other poems that could be included here, please e-mail me and let me know.
APPLES
by
Helen H. Moore
Apples, apples, what a treat,
sweet and tart and good to eat.
Apples green and apples red,
hang from branches overhead,
and when they ripen,
down they drop,
so we can taste our apple crop.

Johnny Appleseed
Oh, the Lord is good to me,
And so I thank the Lord
For giving me the things I need:
The sun, and the rain, and the apple seed;
The Lord is good to me.
For every seed I sow,
An apple tree will grow,
And there will be apples there
Enough for the whole wide world to share;
The Lord is good to me.

Peel an Apple
Peel an apple
Cut it up,
and cook it in a pot.
When you taste it,
you will find,
it's applesauce you've got!

Picking Apples
(can be sung to the tune of Frere Jacques)
Picking apples, picking apples,
'Til we're done, 'til we're done,
Picking all the apples,
Picking all the apples,
'Til we're done, 'til we're done.
Climb a ladder, climb a ladder,
In a tree, in a tree
Hello, everybody;
Hello, everybody,
Look at me, look at me.
Making applesauce, making applesauce
Swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, swish
Pouring the applesauce,
Pouring the applesauce
In a dish, in a dish.
Eating applesauce, eating applesauce,
Yum, yum, yum; yum, yum, yum.
Eating all the applesauce,
Eating all the applesauce.
Now we're done, now we're done.

Red Apple
As I walked under the apple tree
I looked up,
And what did I see?
It wasn't a blossom.
It's wasn't a bee.
It was a juicy red apple
Just
For
Me!

The Apple Tree
Away up high
In an apple tree
Two red apples
Smiled at me
I shook that tree
As hard as I could
Down came those apples
And mmm were they good!

Worm Wiggled Into An Apple
Worm wiggled into an apple,
Worm wiggled into the core,
Worm wiggled out of the apple,
I just can't eat anymore.

Apples Big
Apples big,
Apples small,
Guess what?
I like them all!

If I Were An Apple
If I were an apple
And grew on a tree
I think Id drop down
On a nice boy like me
I wouldnt stay there
Giving nobody joy
Id fall down at once
And sayEat me, my boy

Ten Rosy Apples
Ten rosy apples high in a tree
Safely hiding where no one can see
When the wind goes rocking to and fro
Ten rosy apples to the ground must go

A Johnny Appleseed Song
(sung to Do you Know the Muffin Man)
Do you know the apple man,
the apple man, the apple man?
Do you know the apple man?
He planted apple seeds.
He wore a pot upon his head,
upon his head, upon his head.
He wore a pot upon his head.
His name was Johnny Appleseed.
John Chapman was his real name,
his real name, his real name.
John Chapman was his real name;
But, we call him Johnny Appleseed.

An Apple Chant
Apples in the attic,
Apples in the hall,
Apples in the summer,
Apples in the fall.
Apples make you healthy,
Apples make you tall.
I will eat some apples,
I will eat them all!

Apple

Apple, apple way up high,
I can reach you if I try.
Climb a ladder,
Hold on tight.
Pick you quickly,
Take a bite!

A-P-P-L-E
(to be sung to B-I-N-G-O)
I know a fruit that grows on trees
An apple is its name oh
A-p-p-l-e
A-p-p-l-e
A-p-p-l-e
An apple is its name oh
In summer and in early Fall
It's time to pick an apple
Chorus
It may be sweet or may be tart
It's red, or green, or yellow
Chorus
A McIntosh or Granny Smith
A Winesap or Delicious
Chorus
Make applesauce or apple juice
Or apple pie with apples
Chorus

Apple Magic
By Margaret Hillart
In every single apple lies
A truly magical surprise.
Instead of slicing down,
slice through
And watch the star
appear for you!

A Little Red Apple
A little red apple
Hung high in a tree
I looked up at it
And it looked down at me
"Come down, please" I called
And what do you suppose---
That little red apple
Dropped right on my nose!

I have a Little Apple
I have a little apple,
red and round.
On a tree it is found.
If you take a bite
You will see
Just how tasty it will be!

All Around The Apple Tree
(sung to the tune of Mulberry Bush)
Here we go round the apple tree,
the apple tree,
the apple tree
Here we go around the apple tree
On a frosty morning.
This is the way we climb the ladder
-pick the apples
-wash the apples
-peel the apples
-cook the apples
-eat the apples
On a frosty morning!

Sharing
If I had two apples,
(hold up 2 fingers)
Do you know what I would do?
I'd shine them up and keep one for me,
(shine apples in chest)
And give the other one to you.
(extend hand to a friend)

Five Apples in a Basket
The first apple in the basket
was bright and shy red.
The second apple in the basket
said, "What a cozy bed!"
The third apple in the basket
said, "Please move over there."
The fourth apple in the basket
said, "Now we are two pair."
The fifth apple in the basket
said, "Oh dear, me-oh-my!"
"This basket looks like pastry."
"I think we're apple pie!"

Four red apples on the tree,
Two for you and two for me.

Watch them fall.
One, two, three, four - that is all.

Five Red Apples
Five red apples in a grocery store
Bobby bought one & then there were 4
Four red apples on an apple tree
Susie ate one & then there were 3
Three red apples. What did Alice do?
Why she ate one & then there were 2
Two red apples ripening in the sun
Tommy ate one, & now there was one
One red apple & now we are done
I ate the last one & now there are none!

Five Little Apples Sitting On A Gate
Five little apples sitting on a gate.
The first one says, "Oh, my it's getting late.
The second one says, "Fall is in the air."
The third one says, "Don't worry my dear."
The fourth one says, "Let's run and run and run."
The fifth one says, "I'm ready for some fun."
Oooh, went the wind and out went the light
and the five little apples rolled out of sight!

Oh, pretty red apples in the tree
Send on down just for me
(hold up one finger)

If only I had an apple to eat!
