There are people who send their children to school on time, well rested, and dressed appropriately. |
There are people who faithfully save paper towel rolls, old magazines, clean Chug bottles, and cottage cheese containers (even when they hate cottage cheese) just because you've said you need them for "a project," and these same people never laugh at you or ask why. |
There are people who stay up half the night arranging tiny red candy hearts into smiley faces on cupcakes, put 100 M&Ms on a giant cookie, and make certain that some of the cupcakes are yellow with chocolate frosting. |
There are people who send an extra field trip fee, tee shirt, or snack for the child who doesn't have one, then asks if there is anything the classroom needs. These same people make donations to the 'penny jar' for those hundreds of little extras that come out of the teacher's pocket. |
There are people who voluntarily climb on a bumpy school bus, where the decibel level can't be measured, and ride 700 miles to the zoo. These same people -all in the name of education- accompany their little group into the snake house and ooh and ah and say how cute the snakes and lizards are. |
There are people who help with homework, sign report cards, praise classmade books, help put together costumes, and show up for the school play and applaud until their hands ache. |
There are people who take time out of their busy schedules to come to school and spend time working in the classroom, assembling books, cutting Ellison shapes, addressing and stamping postcards, playing phonics and math games and anything else the students need to enrich their curriculum. |
There are people who get handmade cards, flowerpots, necklaces, treasure chest trinkets, and artwork and proudly display them for all to see. |
There are people who know when the teacher needs a sweet note of encouragement, a quick hug or a kind word and are quick to provide it. |
And then these same people tell you that you're doing a great job and that their kids love school because of you. |
There are mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, foster parents, Rocking Readers, and good friends named Bob or Sue caring for and sharing with our children. These are people called parents. |
Thank you, Lord, for parents! |
